What To Expect
The patient will be asked to take a deep breath and blow into a disposable highly sensitive viral filtered mouth piece which we attached to the spirometer device to determine the patient's lung size and ability to exchange oxygen for carbon dioxide. This study is often performed before a nebulization with bronchodilator medication, then repeated 20 minutes after nebulization to determine if there was airway swelling and inflammation before the medication was administered.
The patient will need to remove chewing gum and possibly dentures or bridges.
A print out will allow the physician to look at all the measurements and discuss these results with the patient.
